 From my experience Lycoris is most assuredly suited for a new user.
It's stabe, VERY easy to use, and updates are a breeze. In fact, out of
the newer "Newbie" distros, Lycoris is probably the best. You might also
want to look at Xandros, if he demands that you have MSOffice or
something. If he's OK using StarOffice or OpenOffice, then go with Lycoris.
