Whether DSL is better than cable depends on where you're at. Here just outside the south edge of Lakeland, Verizon is AWFUL. Cable Modem is MUCH better.

Also, DirecTV offers internet by satellite for about the same price as cable modem, maybe slightly higher; only catch is that you have to buy $600 worth of equipment up front to use it, and just like the TV service it's subject to rain fade during our usual summer thunderstorms.
