Mr Bethune,

I recently read an article on Techweb in which your
employee ,Mr Nathan Hanks, states that the Linux
community is by and large responsible for the illegal
activities, loss or corporate productivity, revenues
and general damages provided by the SQL Slammer virus.

This statement was not only slanderous and
inflammatory, but just plain irresponsible. The Linux
community as a whole is committed to spread, usage and
enjoyment of free software. We are not criminals nor
do we spend our time thinking up ways to sabotage
corporations that use Microsoft products.

Linux users are by and large a good cross section of
the general public and corporations who are interested
in saving money by not having to pay gross amounts of
money every 2 years when Microsoft changes this or
that in their operating system.

I could go on about the differences about the
operating systems and how good it would be for your
corporation to use Linux, but this letter is not about
Linux and Microsoft. This letter is about your
employee Mr. Hanks and his irresponsibility when
speaking to members of the press. To the Computing
world it not only showed Mr Hanks to be irresponsible
and unknowledgable, but best case scenario just cast a
bad light on your corporation, and in the worst case,
opened your corporation to legal actions, which
considering the current economic state of the airline
industry is not good for either your company or the
general public.

As for me, I will not patronize a company that
would allow an employee to make such a blatently
irresponsible remark that offends me personally.

Thank you for your time,

Mark R. Banschbach,
