My personal opinion (only doing it will really tell) is that as long as you don't have
computer-to-computer traffic on your LAN going through the 486 then you should be ok. You'll
probably be limited to 10-base-t ISA cards in a machine like that, which will bottleneck if you're
using modern machines with 100-base-t cards on the LAN. The outbound DSL connection, though, won't
exeed 1mbps, so even a 10mbps card should be fine for that. The other bottleneck you'll have to
watch out for it whether or not the ISA bus and processor can keep up with all of your outbound
traffic. For a regular household LAN, though, I don't see that being a problem. Be warned, though,
I've never tried it myself. =;)

As for what you'll need, start with the hardware: Make sure that your 486 has TWO ethernet cards
in it. Assuming that they are both detected correctly by RedHat, you should be able to follow the
instructions in the NAT howto: http://www.netfilter.org/documentation/HOWTO/NAT-HOWTO.html (I'm
sure it's at tldp.org as well, but they seem to be down at the moment).

Good luck!
