   I know this is going to sound stupid, because tarball to ME only
means files were combined with tar.

   If you installed the source code you should be able to remove things
with `make clean' or `make clean all'. If not source, it was a binary
package, such as mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.4-sea.tar.gz to confirm,
you can look in the original downloaded package for mozilla-installer-bin
  (then I don't have a clue past: whereis mozilla)
