Re: [SLUG] Filtering KMAIL email to Delete Without Using POP Filters

Principally I am truing to delete Viagra and other assorted trash.
As you suggest the filters are not that good but my filter requirements are
not that high so the Kmail filters are adequate.
As far as the filter rules I had the same problem you do until I realized that
I had my filters set up backwards. I was trying to filter out what I did not
want. Now I filter out what I want and send that to the appropriate in-box
for example Slug-Inbox. I also have outgoing filters setup that send out
going message to the appropriate out box for example Slug-Outbox. That made
life a lot simpler.

Going back to the incoming messages. I have found that it is not desirable
most of the time to do filter pop filters. Most of the time yes but I do have
one set up. It seems that some jerk sends spam to a number of earthmail email
address in sequential order. So I do have a pop filter set to eliminate mail
to these particular addresses which proves a point with Kmail if you know a
particular address you just do not want to get mail from pop is the way to
go.

What I have though is desired unexpected mail from unknown sources comming in
and undesired unexpected mail from unknown sources arriving. Not much but
some so all of this has been going to a general inbox.

Something I have noted is that most commercial spam is html usually with words
like investment, Viagra, sex et in the heading.

What I was trying to do was set up another filter to filter this out and send
it directly to delete. I can filter it out and send it to trash but then I
have to sort through it along with the other trash mail which as you have so
kindly pointed out may not be trash.

In that light I have tried various ways of sending it to /dev/null without
success.

As far as I can see there is only one possible method left that I have not
fully explored - I have tried some things without success - and that is
executing a command. There I tried the commands "delete", "del", and a few
versions of /del/null none of which have produced the desired results.

One could set up another program to filter larger volumes of mail but my mail
volume does not justify that.

So if anyone happens to know how to cause Kmail to delete - not trash- a mess
I would appreciate the information.

Thanks
Frank
