I work for the Hartford Insurance Company and they acquired new laptops from Gateway. I will say that they are good and fast. I installed RH 9.0 without no problems at all. Also, I installed Freebsd and it is running perfectly. We have been having them for more than 6 months, and we have not experienced any problems. I will say that all the laptops are acceptable, but you need to realize that sometimes we get lucky and sometimes we don't. I have never had problems with my HP Laptop, but problably the person who bought his/her next to me has had many problems with his/hers. I will say that all is opted to you. I have heard that Toshiba and Dell are good also. As I said recommend which one is good is easy, but buying yours is always hard.

Subject: [SLUG] which laptop
I need to get a laptop for school. "Must have"s are: reasonably fast,
expandable RAM, decent video card, "post" pointing device (what _is_ the
politically-correct name for that?) or trackball, standard ports on the
back, Linux compatibility. "Would be nice"s are: floppy drive (external
is OK), long battery life.
I also plan to get some sort of battery-powered printer. High quality is
not required for that; as long as it makes dots on paper.
I heard the Centrino-powered laptops have no fan, which makes them very
quiet, and use little power. That's a Good Thing.
Any recommendations as to which laptop and which printer?
