Hi All

I debated about posting this since this is a Linux users list.
Then I realized that I should post it precisely because this is a Linux users
list.

The following relates the sequence of events that occurred for the Northeast
blackout.
One first question should be how does this relate to Linux? That question has
a number of answers.
1. A large majority of the computers used for simple data logging run on MS.
The same is also true of almost all power system engineering simulation
packages and a large number of power plant control packages.
2. It has been hinted at for weeks but never overtly stated that a major part
of system logging was out of service due to MS viruses. Blaster has
repeatedly been mentioned.
3. I have made repeatly mention that SCADA was the next big computer field.
Most people on the list have yet to grasp what SCADA is. This shows what
SCADA does. All the systems are part of SCADA. Do not expect to do a Goggle
search for SCADA and understand. SCADA is a generatic name; not the name of
most of the components.
4. A large number of people on the SCADA - Australia list are also Linus
users. That is obvious by the amount of Linux information that flows across
the list.
5. Finally there are a number of people here who would appreciate a different
position - myself included. This inters the equation because the central
Florida I4 carder is one of the 3 major region in the US where their are a
number of firms working on various portions of SCADA all under different
anachronisms.
