There's a common misconception with RedHat costing money. It's being promoted
in many magazines and lists. It is however not true.

You can still download RH for free from their website. Including ISO images to
burn your own CD's. You still get updates for free (requires answering short
surveys every few months).

Their free services works great even if you have a big company in that they
can all be on free upgrade program. Support is what you need to pay for. If
you have a critical machine that you for some reason cannot support yourself
you CAN get a contract on that.

On my RH machine I do have an annual $60 contract to get guaranteed access to
a fast download server. Which comes handy when new releases are done. No more
waiting in line. But I don't have that for any of the other distributions.
(Except I pay for almost every version of OpenBSD.)
