Hello, I've worked with RedHat linux (mostly servers) for a few years
now, but this is my first attempt at a debian desktop install and I'm
having some trouble getting the installer to see the harddisk. The
target system is a Pentium Pro 200MHz with 96 MB of RAM. Here's where
it gets interesting: its hard disk is going through a Promise Ultra 33
Bus Master so I can get over the 8GB disk limit in its BIOS. I have
an 80 Giggish disk attached to the Promise card.
A knoppix I burned in march (v 3.2) works with the card/disk fine
(comes up as /dev/hde). /proc/ide/ide2/hde/geometry and capactiy look
good at 79780/16/63 and 80418240. Knoppix will run with a swap
partition towards the end on the device without errors, and I also have
had no errors reading/writing from any of the partitions. This is
without me manually specifying any kernel parms.
But no matter what I try, the sarge netinst iso I downloaded today is
unable to find that disk. Any suggestions from the hardware and/or
debian wizards floating around here?
