You can update from a rh9 to Fedora severn. Fedora Core should be out
soon, maybe in the next couple days, and it *should* be able to be
upgraded from a rh9 system.
Fedora can do apt and rpm, which obviates one of the reasons I'd use
Debian. It is also completely "free" which obviates another :D. If you're
using RHL (i.e., RHL8.0 or RHL9) as a server and don't want to pick up one
of the paid-for RedHat Enterprise options then Fedora is a good choice.
Server applications are available but are not the focus of the project so
you still run apache and samba. I usually build these from source anyway
so it's not that big a deal for me. The update mechanism is distributed,
similar to Mandrake's urpmi, so you can update machines without a
subscription. Be aware that the upgrade cycle for Fedora is roughly six
months.
In my case I have about sixteen machines that I've managed through RHN.
Two will get moved to RH Enterprise and the rest will go to Fedora.
On my personal machines I'll be using a mix of Fedora and Mandrake 9.2.
