I do not profess to have any legal savvy, but Gentoo has encountered problems
that I thought telling of Sun's views on the subject. Originally, Gentoo
included a package containing the Java SDK, and apparently someone (don't
know the facts) had legal concerns about this practice. Now, Gentoo makes
package stubs for the various java SDKs available from Sun which then provide
a link for the user to download/place in a predefined directory. Then the
Gentoo package handles the configuration of the SDK within the OS, while the
user still has to accept Suns license. Problem is, this is not possible with
a Live CD, since it needs to have everything included in the compressed
distro CD. Maybe you could contact the Gentoo Java package maintainer for
the history on this.
