Hi All

Last night at the slug meeting I described an issue concerning my printer and
solicited advice.

For all of you who were not there the issue is that I have split my latpop HD
into 3 segments.
1 - Windows XP
2. Common Data
3. Mandrake 9.1

Certain files in particular word documents when created print but after saving
refuse to print.

It does not matter if the file is created under Windows in Lotus or MS Office
or under Mandrake in Open Office.

The file simply refuses to print.

I also have a dual boot HP box which some of you will recall that has Win 98
and unfortunately for this situation Mandrake 9.1 instead of the old RH 6.3
it did have.

The same files refuse to print in Win 98.

Also there is a RH 7.3 box which has the same issue with the same files.

I do have another printer and these which I seldom use. After connecting it to
the laptop I didcovered that the file would print using that printer.

This lead me to do a little more investigation because all files created in
the old Win 98 office always print.

What appears to be happening is that files that pass through the Win XP system
become corrupted in some form in that in certain situations the code is not
compatable with the 4 year old printer.

The printer is a HP 890 C.

This leads to the question of what printer would the group recommend for the
old printer's replacement.

My personal requirements
Initial cost not a consideration but operating cost are.
No proprietary ink coterages.
Would highly prefer a non Win Printer although they are hard to find. Would
really prefer one that was postscript ready.

Thanks
Frank
