Hello sluggers,
I just recieved a box of pictures (and most of the negatives for said
pictures) from work that I have to scan .I currently have a Umax Astra
2100U. Unfortunetly Umax sucks for linux compatibility, atleast my model
isn't supported under sane. I actually found a link at the UK Umax site
for linux drivers for this scanner. It was a link to sanes webpage, can
you believe it. At the sane site it said that Umax wouldn't release the specs,
so a driver couldn't be made. Jerks. So obviously I can't use this scanner in
Linux and that's one of the things holding me back from 100% linux.
Enough background rambling lol I'm waiting for the OK from my boss to
purchase a new scanner. If I get the OK, i want to get a linux
compatible scanner, and also one that has slide/negative scanning capabilities.
I have been using sane's site for compatability checks. Neither Best
Buy or CurcuitCity sells a scanner that is supported.
So I'm looking for suggestions on which scanner to get, and where I
could purchase it. I'm hoping to get the OK for about 200$, but I
might be able to go higher. The scanned pictures will be used on both
the web and for printing on a photoprinter.
