I agree with this method... using the same static IP at home that you use at
work... this would require that you use the same IP scheme
(192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 or other alternative). This will "up" the
technical details, if you VPN into work. I would be curious if there is a
way in Linux to create different profiles that a user can choose when
booting up, that will have different NIC assignments, depending upon the
enviroment. Gotta' be a way, though I am uncertain of how to go about this.

I think that the easiest way would be for you to reconfigure your home
network to which your laptop settings remain the same (assuming your
business IP address is in one of the private network ranges)
