Actually SUSE's "scpm", as documented at the URL supplied by Logan, works fine
with any type of NIC, not just PCMCIA cards.

And you can select the profile you want to use at boot time with the "append"
parameter of either lilo or grub, making it ideal for laptops on multiple
networks.
