This was the problem. It's been so long since I set up a softRAID (SCSI back
then) that I forgot. Of course it helps to RTFM :)
I don't remember doing the fdisk 0xFD with SCSI, but it seems like I would
have to anyway. I think I added something lame in the rc scripts to get it
to work last time.
It still doesn't use /dev/md0 as the boot partition, but I'm working on that.
I'll post after I'm done. Thanks for the warning about the softRAID root
partition. I'm actually going to split-off various directories later--like a
good geek.
