How about in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults ? Does "xrdb -query | grep
-i dia" show anything useful?

Maybe. Have you seen this "inaccessible fonts" issue with other programs?

I think strace alone may show too much info. Maybe "strace dia 2>&1 |
grep ^X"?

Got me. I use strace only when I have to, because it shows so much info
(and my C is bad, so I don't understand much of its output).
