Yep, you're right. I was taking my experience from DOS/Windows 3.1, where
AFAIK the mouse driver came with the OS and there was no way to restart
it.

I shut down for thunderstorms, because my UPS sucks and INN doesn't
tolerate crashes well. Also when my sister's here, as she doesn't like
the noise. But in general use, I try to avoid powering down. Good to
know that gpm thing.
