That is the _standard_ SUN _console_ (i.e., text/boot-time) with a 12x22
font. The resolution has been _much_higher_ once X comes up. Don't
confuse the two.

If the DB-15 cable is crappy, of course. It needs to be well shielded
_and_ have lead cylinders at _each_ end to reduce EMI (as well as EMF
generation). Many extension cables do not offer these.
