You were the one who said you didn't believe he'd notice a difference. Now
you're saying that's not the resolution he'll run in X.

Yes, most folks won't notice a problem in text mode - It's in graphics mode
that you'll see the problem. So, I figured you were either talking about a
really _old_ box, or a low resolution mode. And my experience is 13W3
connectors are almost always used for high resolution graphics. Thus my
attempt to point out possible quality issues using PC-grade cables.

That is the _standard_ SUN _console_ (i.e., text/boot-time) with a 12x22

If the DB-15 cable is crappy, of course. It needs to be well shielded _and_
have lead cylinders at _each_ end to reduce EMI (as well as EMF generation).
Many extension cables do not offer these.
