It was hard for me also to disassociate the concept of deb from the concept of
apt, but it makes sense, especially once you've witnessed firsthand the
perpetual nastiness that is YUM/YAST. I think the deal is that RPMs never
really were the problem; it was the package management software that was bad.
I've tried apt4rpm with Suse 9.1 and it works really well, if you can't use
Debian/Slackware/Gentoo.
