Dunno about Suse, but there are some compatibility packages for some of
the other distributions. You install them and then 32 bit packages
should work without a recompile. I understand that they also work as
fast or faster than 32bit on 32bit because of increased cache on the
x86_64. If it does compile, you may gain a bunch of speed but might
require code modifications.
