What Distro are you using? Suse and Xandros have seen two differant
readers for me
as removable disks. If your camera has USB output you can start your
system with the
camera hooked up and it will probably see it as a removable drive.
I have used an external DVD drive with no trouble without using any
special software.

For an integrated media reader you may need to get Linux drivers from HP.
