[SLUG] EXT3-fs errors

Well I had a pucker-inducing moment tonight. The monitor flashed its "no
signal" display then went black, right in the middle of me composing an
email. How rude. So I switch to tty1 and find these scrolling up my
screen:

EXT3-fs error (device ide0(3,3)): ext3_get_inode_loc: bad inode number: 4005720840
EXT3-fs error (device ide0(3,3)) in ext3_reserve_inode_write: IO failure

/dev/hda3 is root (1.5 GB total, ~450 MB used). Thodr messages are in the
log too, 63 of them, all referring to the same inode. (For future
reference, how do I find out what's at inode X?)

Going to tty7 must have ticked it off, because it "oops"ed then.

OK, maybe it's a fluke, and fsck will fix it. No dice, after restart (still
in console mode) it crashed again. Fine. I booted from the System Rescue
CD (handy tool, that), tarred up everything on /dev/hda3, mkfs'd a new
filesystem, restored the files, fixed the bootloader and restarted. So far
so good...

LEO: Now is not a good time to photocopy your butt and staple
it to your boss' face, oh no. Eat a bucket of tuna-flavored pudding
and wash it down with a gallon of strawberry Quik. -- Weird Al
