Ahhh...a fellow debianista w/ a powerpc! Just found out the other day
that Linus runs a G5 w/ Linux (of course) as his main machine. How cool
is that? Looks like us ppc types might get some equal standing after
all! :-)

But this is a general question you have about your sources.list file.
You won't 'kill' your system, but you may have trouble with updating
from time to time. I think you'd be better off w/ using 'testing' (aka
sarge). It's very stable for what I've needed...and fairly up to date,
without being bleeding edge.

Just change the places in /etc/apt/sources.list that say "stable" to
"testing"...e.g.:
deb http://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
