I went to the Apple store in International Plaza to check out some of
the new hardware, the Mac mini is a really nice machine. I one I tested
was one of the lower spec models - 1.25GHz with 512MB - and it was still
nice and fast. Seeing how everyone that uses a Mac in the store does not
know about command-Q to close the app (closing the window does not do it
alone) it had about 15 to 20 apps running in the bg and it was still
humming along.

For the money, it's a nice machine. I have used a Via 1GHz / 1GB RAM
mini-atx machine running Windows XP and it did not seem as fast as the
Mac mini I tested. If I did not need something portable I would get a
mini for sure.

Oh and Ubuntu runs _flawless_ on a G3 and faster, I've tested it on a
400MHz iMac, 500MHz iMac, and a 800 iBook. It was a mirror install to
the x86 copy I have running.
