Well, the problem is that you've apparently hosed something that's
integral to the whole OS. At the very least, you've 1) obliterated or
moved the "man" command, or 2) changed your path so that "man" is no
longer in it. You could try to apt-get install man-db and/or manpages,
but I'm not sure that would solve the problem. I should also point out
that, despite the care taken by Debian engineers to make apt/dpkg and
the like serve all your dependency needs flawlessly, it is still
possible to hose your system to such an extent that it would take hours
to fix it if you don't reinstall. I wish there was something like
/var/log/apt.log so you could backtrack the sequence of what you've
done, but I don't know of such a thing.
