Great radio, I had one used it to do AMTOR back years ago.
You need a 30 amp psu and a dynamic mic. The electronic
store just east of 50th on hillsborough ave should have the
connector you are looking for (Practical Electronics) and the
antenna for starters could be a home built multi-band dipole.

On amtor I did many of my contacts in the lowest power
position of the radio (100mw) now days the psk modes
should do even better.
Get the Knoppix AFU CD it has all kinds of low power
digital mode stuff on it. (google knoppix AFU)

Nuuuu Wayyyyy would I live over in the geriatic capital
of the world... I live here in good old red neck tampa, get
up and go to work like real people, I go over to that side
of the bay and get all frustrated trying to drive down the
road behind one of those people.

Well, I am very active on the packet radio thing more on the "making it
work" end than actual use. We are trying to get the state wide network
into better shape and get all of the switch sites converted to Linux and
we can use all of the help we can get. I have been telling the others on
the different list where we are dealing with this to also join a local LUG
so that they can get help outside of the ham community because help
is not always as fast arriving for non-ham related parts of doing Linux
when you run into something like the screwup I did on the man pages.
If you want to get your hands on a project that will not only be fun but
a benefit to our communities in the event of a disaster, then jump in
and give us a hand.
You will need a 2m radio and tnc or you can use your sound card and
the software in Linux to emulate a TNC. Linux unlike the other OS's
has the ax25 and networking pieces built into the kernel so it really
is well integrated with the radio world.
