Re: [SLUG] Samba File sharing

He connects via his router(NAT) by all pcs from what he wrote he had
firewalling running on individual PCs (RH, Fedora installs this by
default), and he dropped these (not the NAT/router) in debugging. I
think I did pay attention.

He is also clearly from the windows world and have very little knowhow
of unixes. I dont like to frighten novices with "thou shall must
follow tight security" let them do it, have them quick wins, deepen
their knoweledge step by step so they understand when and why to use
what.

My rule is a person should not be presented more info at a time than
what they can absorb and use with confidence. This amount differs from
people to people. I like to give confidence and understanding. He did
not even had a clue how to share files between unixes besides samba.
Yes, nfs is a way, but before I talk about the security of NFS on a
local home network of three PCs behinde a personal router/firewall I
try to find out what does he really needs. And as above I noted kde
with the kioslaves (fish://) could be just what he needs.

And you are right, people do silly things.
