If all you're doing is mating your program with a certain library, you
_don't_ need autotools. It's just a makefile issue. If that's all you
want, let us know; that's pretty simple.
If you still need help with autotools, you're out of luck. There are
three guys on this planet who know how to use them, and they're all
sworn to secrecy. (Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;-} Autotools, as you've
discovered, is very complex. It's a great idea, but so complex it seems
to be like learning an additional language beyond C/C++.)
