[SLUG] wifi card driver

I installed linux recently, Xandros 2.0 Open Circulation Ed.
and bought/installed a D-Link DWL-G520 (108mbs) wireless card.
This particular card uses the Atheros chipset (used in a
variety of cards by various manufacturers) and is revision C,
as I recall.

A development group - madwifi.sourceforge.net/ - has been
working on source code for a driver for this chipset. (Madwifi
stands for Multiband Atheros Driver for WiFi.) I've been
subb*scribbed to the group's madwifi-users@lists.sourceforge.net
mail list for some weeks now, hoping (fruitlessly) that some of
the discussions on the list would make some sense to me, but
these guys are speaking in tongues.

I've gotten as far as to retrieve the not-yet-beta version of
the code, and tried to do the make command. But - not knowing
what the h*** I'm doing - I can't get past this point without
an error that I think is related to not having the correct
files in the correct directories. Of course, not having an
idea what 'make' is doing or what it needs doesn't help the
matter.

Sorry for the long note but .... where can I get some help
with this? Any chance I could bring this thing down to a
meeting and make it a group project?

Where can I get a succinct explanation in reasonably layman's
terms on how to install such software?

Any chance one of you folks near me could lend a hand?
The coffee's hot, and the beer's cold.

ps One acceptable alternative is to buy another card which
will work with Xandros 2.0, but I don't know which one.

pps This is the third time I've tried to post this message.
Majordomo sure is picky!!
