Our company had to ship back nearly all of their new Toshibas because
they overheated and fried themselves (some had smoke coming out of
them). They went back to the IBM ThinkPads for subsequent laptop
refreshes. I suspect yours has befallen the same fate, but since you
indicate it's "new" it should be under warranty.
