Absolutely. You chose to buy the music, thus agreeing to whatever terms
were/are spelled out by the company selling the music.

Now, there are mitigating factors. First, did the company explain what
their DRM or license entailed? In the case of the CDs in question, they
did not. The ads for them just said "copy protected", which doesn't
really explain anything. The second issue is what software they install
on your computer, and what effect it has on your computer. Sony
certainly didn't explain this, and the software was detrimental to
Windows machines.

But let's say instead that the CDs didn't install anything on your
computer, but still managed to prevent your copying them or playing them
on some other computer or OS. At that point, you have no real recourse,
other than to return the CD if you don't like the arrangement. And if
Sony told you all this up front, you had the responsibility not to buy
it in the first place. If they fully informed you and you bought the CD
anyway, then tried to return it because you disagreed, that would be
your fault.
