[SLUG] not really but kind of Linux related

Hi,
I have a problem. The solution of the problem would probably apply to
Linux users as well as Mac. I am running a few macs, as I know a few
other SLUG members are, and I am having a problem with the dvd disc.
I got a few scratches on the disc, but not on the data side but the
label side. The silver coating and parts of the label have scratched
off.
The specific disk is my OS X install dvd. I can get about 1/2 way
through the install then it will quit with a data error.Does anyone
have any idea on how to repair the surface so the disc is once again
usable? For any of the mac users, does anyone have a 10.4 disc that I
may borrow,or get a copy of, for an install? Apple wont replace the
dvd but will sell me a replacement which is not really an affordable
option ( they already got my money for the disc that I killed) I am
really more interested in attempting a repair, actually I am really
more interested in getting this cube operational.
I did a google and tried putting silver paint on the scratches but
that didnt work at all. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there
any type of repair. I assume the data is still on the disc because
the data side isnt damaged only the label side but I havent found any
way of making the disc usable again. Any suggestions? Anyone willing
to lend/make ma a copy of 10.4?
Any help is appreciated,

A J
