This isn't necessarily bleeding edge news, but in case some people don't
read slashdot every day, VMWare released a free player a while back.
You can get it here http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
You can download several virtual workstations of various flavors here

I thought this could be an interesting thing for SLUG. Could we set up
a Linux Virtual Workstation swap somewhere? Those of us who have the
full VMWare Workstation software could create the files of various
distros and upload them to an FTP server, or maybe BitTorrent them.
Then if someone wants to try out Linux, they don't need a whole computer
dedicated (or a partition) to that Linux distro. They can run it from
VMWare Player. I run a Fedora Core 4 LAMP server in VMWare and it runs
flawlessly. I would imagine that most distros would too. The beauty of
it is that there won't be any hardware or driver conflicts since it's
virtual.
Anyway, I just thought this would be useful for people wanting to try
out Linux. Anyone have further ideas, or interest in this?
