kdesu allows you to open a application as the root user. I use "kdesu
konqueror" all the time to go in and change things in the file system. I also
"kdesu kdar" to be able to back up the entire system so that everything can
be accessed/copied. Hit ALT/F2,enter the kdesu app, give the root password,
and away you go.
