   I always thought win should take care of win problems.

Knoppix and ubuntu may need a file system driver (module) for
the ntfs file system.
Note: the 2.6 kernels only should be trusted for ntfs file system
writes. (per the LINUX ntfs team web site)

   You might have to copy byte by byte (manually) the boot sector
and up to the partition table from a other good similarly formatted
drive with a (32 bit) "disk editor" I have a friend that did it.
