GLUE is a broken activity within SSC, the publishers of Linux Journal.
It's been broken for years, and most of the people connected with it
know it. They have a list to which many of us LUG presidents are
s*bscr*bed, and you should read some of the flames for GLUE from them
over the years. Lots of promises, not a lot of delivery. GLUE apparently
gets passed from person to person at SSC, none of whom have time to mess
with it.
In any case, they don't maintain their database very well. Waaaay back
when, when SLUG first started, the website was housed on my corporate
website (quillandmouse.com) as a subpage. And the email address I used
for it at the time was slug@quillandmouse.com. Unfortunately, that
address has become a spam magnet over the years, so a while back I set
the server to bounce any mail coming to it.
Apparently they've now attached GLUE to linuxgazette.com. Many may not
realize this, but the original participants of Linux Gazette broke off
from Phil Hughes at SSC some years ago over Phil's desire to radically
alter the philosophy of Linux Gazette. Phil's only connection to Linux
Gazette was that he had agreed to host the site some years ago. But at
some point he felt he had the authority to change it because of this. So
the original Linux Gazette guys (all volunteers) all left and started
http://linuxgazette.net . There ensued a trademark battle, etc. Very
nasty episode. In any case, linuxgazette.com is Phil Hughes' version of
Linux Gazette.
Their link to our website reads like this:
http://http//www.suncoastlug.org . Ahem. No wonder you'd end up at
Microsoft or the twilight zone.
Anyway, I really like Linux Journal, but none of those connected with
GLUE are happy with it, and most of the followers of the old Linux
Gazette consider Phil's conduct less than honorable.
