Yup, but only when traditional ugo doesn't cut it, like when
supporting windows domain users.

For regular personal use, even today, ACL's are still kind of a pain.
That said, they used to be a _REAL_ drag before applications included
ACL support (for example, vi or whatever your text editor is today is
probably linked with libacl, but it didn't used to be... when using it
to modify a file would result in all its ACL information being lost).

It's gotten better, but for another example, to this day you won't
find any kind of acl search support in vanilla GNU/findutils.
