Well, it can stop you from keeping rootkits out...

ml

And it stops you from letting a friend listen to your music... http://www.majordojo.com/technology/increasingly_di.php

I believe we can all agree that it allows the copyright holder to place restrictions on the use of the material, beyond what the law allows us to do. And some of find that quite distasteful. I simply lost interest in buying new music, and judging from the drop in CD sales, I suspect others feel the same.

It has caused me to look elsewhere, and I have found a wealth of music without DRM. The silver lining in this is that it has sparked a revolution in music distribution. And that's a good thing.

Welcome to the Internet age...

Get off your damn high horse.

a. DRM has not stopped me from doing anything I would not normally do with a CD except burning 100 copies of the same songs at one time. b. I take it from machine to machine and even have them on a network share. C. Please tell me one thing DRM is going to stop me from doing.

I disagree that abusing copyright law to rob users of fair use is a "legitimate" distribution method. It doesn't have to happen. Protest by not getting music from major record labels through these channels. iTunes is another DRM whore, albeit easily strippable with free tools, and I'm glad there's no gnu/linux port of that either.
