[SLUG] mplayer stopped working

I have Xorg 6.8.2 and "MPlayer dev-CVS--4.0.2 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team".
Recently, it (mplayer) stopped working (on any movie, not just the one
below). Well, it flashes the first frame of the movie, then exits. I don't
think I made any changes recently (obviously I'm wrong). The behavior is
the same no matter what -vo option I choose (except for those that don't
work at all). Nothing appears in /var/log/Xorg.0.log . mplayer's output is
below. Any ideas why this would happen?

An ASCII character walks into a bar and orders a double. "Having a bad
day?" asks the barman. "Yeah, I have a parity error," replies the ASCII
chrcter. The barman says, "Yeah, I thought you looked a bit off." - Skud
