What could cause this?

root@pc:/# /etc/init.d/sysklogd stop
  * Stopping system log daemon...
/etc/init.d/sysklogd: line 71: /sbin/start-stop-daemon: cannot execute binary file
                                                                                                                     [fail]

root@pc:/# lsattr /sbin/start-stop-daemon
----------------- /sbin/start-stop-daemon

root@pc:/#

I did a "find /lib -type f -size 0 -print0 | xargs -0 --no-run-if-empty ls -lb"
and nothing was found. If restarting fixes it, dandy, but if it
doesn't I could wind up screwed.

Now sounds like a good time to disable the nightly backup. As I still don't
know which of HD#1, HD#2 or IDE controller is bad (I've gotten no errors),
I'll replace the cheapest and easiest of them -- the IDE controller -- and
move HD#[12] to /dev/hd[ef], I guess. Or maybe just HD#2, if that's OK with
the system.
