Hi Ian,

Just to give you an understanding of what had happend on my end, prior to our
disagreement..

I had spoken with someone about problems they were having with their
iptables. I offered to help, then realized I did not understand a number of
things and decided to ask you as you have given me the impression of being a
professional.

It was done off-list because the person did not want their problem in public.
It was an issue with him. You are perfectly right in that it sure did not
include anything personal. I had already removed their IP and so on. But I
had said I'd keep it off the Internet.

So to me this was a breach of my word. I was stunned to find it on SLUG. Of
course it would have been better had I made it clear in my email to you. I
had just made an assumption, which I'm sure you have heard can make an ass
out of you and me, as the saying goes.

I hold no ill feelings for what you did, as I said I don't do it that way but
I understand why you did it. I could have helped by ensuring you knew not to
post it in the first place.
