I just repaired one like your talking about, but the
break was in a cross member. I don't know if this
will work with a broken post, but here's my fix:
We have dozens of thick plastic ties sitting around,
so I cut a piece of the black plastic to fit the
broken cross member. I used super glue and a pair of
vice gripps to apply pressure to the plastic. This
kind of plastic is not readily glued by the superglue.
Instead, it just kind of melts it. So don't put too
much on. It does take longer to dry, but when it's
dry it will have fused the two pieces of plastic
together. It's important to note that the plastic I'm
talking about is not the thin floppy plastic like the
trash ties are made of, but the thick plastic cable
ties you find in Home Depot. I've not had a lot of
luck McGivering anything with the thin stuff.
Good Luck.
