Lowest consumables cost would be a laser printer type.

HP LaserJet 3050 ($299), if sheet feed is ok. Worthless for copying books,
however.

What does this have to do with computers, you might say. Glad you asked.
I figure the cheapest device with acceptable quality given the number of
expected copies (5-10 per day or so) would be one of those
scanner-printer-copier multifunction devices. Naturally, the copying
functionality is most important. Color is not necessary, but with modern
inkjets is almost a given. Cheap renewables (per page at least) is a big
bonus. Can anybody recommend (or de-recommend) one?
