Before you do that, make sure its lock file doesn't exist:
eben@pc:~$ \ls -l ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/lock
lrwxrwxrwx 1 eben eben 18 2006-08-22 21:02 /home/eben/.mozilla/firefox/p8hrtmm3.default/lock -> 192.168.1.11:+2788
If it does and FF isn't running, delete it.
