Re: [SLUG] Windows VM on Linux

There's is only a couple of "gotcha's" that I have found.

The first time I set it up, I could boot into XP straight from GRUB or
go into Linux and then boot XP from vmware; but something has changed
and I am not longer able to boot XP directly from GRUB. I have read that
this is a Disk Geometry issue, but I haven't had time to investigate it
more thoroughly. It work for a while until I screw up my linux file
system once because I had set grub to default to linux. What happened
was that I fired up vmware and left my machine so grub(within vmware)
booted up linux on the same partition that I was running. (2 writes make
a wrong type thing). Anyway, after reinstalling linux and vmware, I
could not get XP to boot directly from grub but still can do it from
vmware.

Secondly, I have had to call M$ twice to "re-activate" XP. VMware uses
some 'virtual' drivers so a fresh install or reinstall of XP see's too
many changes in hardware signatures. Basically this is just a pain in
the ass.

I intend to retry this configuration next week on a newer laptop next
week when time permits.
