Hi All,

Well it looks pretty clear WHY Novell made the deal with MS at this point.
Reading their quarterly reported earnings "cash flow of $384M was above our
$260M estimate due to more payments from Microsoft than we were modeling.
Cash flow would have been zero in the quarter without the Microsoft
payments."

So there it is. It was not greed but fighting for survival that made them do
it. Cornered with a slump in sales they signed a deal with the devil to stay
alive, so to speak.

A large amount of uncertainty has been looming over them as the Linux business
has not worked. With Novell being in a decade long slump, it's easy to see
why they finally gave in and signed the deal.
