What I ended up doing was copying the kernel from "System Rescue CD 0.3.5
beta" and using that. It even supports the NIC, so that's good. Now I'm in
the process of elimination of unneeded drivers, and modularization of
everything I can. I hope I can get X up. Maybe use "nv" instead of
"nvidia"...
